What is Spartan DEKA?
A timed indoor fitness race of ten functional-fitness zones, created by Spartan. Same ten zones in every city, so a time in Madrid means the same thing as a time in Austin. That comparability is what makes the results worth putting in a database.

This is the zone list for FIT, MILE and STRONG. ATLAS drops the cardio machines and FIRE is bodyweight-only, so neither uses exactly these ten. Order and repetitions are Spartan’s and change between seasons; the API always reports what the organiser published for that race, never a normalised guess.
The formats
DEKA FIT
10 zones + 5 km of running
The benchmark format: 500 m of running before each zone, twenty timed splits in all.
DEKA MILE
10 zones + 1 mile of running
Same zones, a fifth of the running. Faster, and decided far more by the zones.
DEKA STRONG
10 zones, no running
Strength-endurance only, and the format most often run inside a single gym.
DEKA ATLAS
10 heavy zones, 30-minute cap
No running and no cardio machines, so the zone list differs from the three above. The only format Spartan does not pitch at every fitness level.
DEKA ULTRA
50 zones + 25 km of running
Five times a FIT race. Rare, and not a like-for-like comparison with anything else here.
DEKA FIRE
Bodyweight, no equipment
A test rather than a competition format: five metres of space, four markers and a clock.
Common questions
What is Spartan DEKA?
DEKA is a timed indoor fitness race created by Spartan. An athlete completes ten functional-fitness stations, called zones, against the clock; depending on the format they are separated by running or done back to back. Your finishing time is your DEKA Mark. It is a fixed, repeatable benchmark rather than an obstacle course, which is what makes results comparable between events and athletes.
Is DEKA the same as Spartan Race?
No. Spartan Race is the outdoor obstacle course series. DEKA is Spartan's indoor, standardised fitness racing format, held in gyms and arenas, with the same ten zones everywhere.
What is the difference between DEKA FIT, MILE, STRONG, ATLAS and ULTRA?
FIT, MILE and STRONG share the same ten zones and differ only in running: 5 km, 1 mile, or none. ATLAS is ten heavier zones against a 30-minute cap, with no running and no cardio machines, so its zone list is not the same ten. ULTRA is fifty zones and 25 km, five times round a FIT race. DEKA FIRE is a separate bodyweight test needing no equipment at all. Team variants exist for FIT, MILE and STRONG.
How is a DEKA race scored?
By total elapsed time, called the DEKA Mark. A DEKA FIT race produces twenty splits, ten runs and ten zones, and the Mark is the sum of them with any time penalties applied. Because the zones are the same everywhere, a Mark set in one city is directly comparable with one set in another, which is what makes the results worth ranking.
How is DEKA different from HYROX?
Both are standardised indoor fitness races with fixed stations and running between them. They are separate competitions run by different organisers, with different stations, distances and rules. This API covers DEKA.
Where can I get DEKA results as data?
Here. Results are published per event by the timing providers; this API collects them, reconciles them into one model across formats and regions, and serves them as versioned JSON with an OpenAPI 3 contract.
Building something on DEKA results?
Every race above, in one model, as JSON. https://api.dekaresultsapi.com/v1/events
